ΕΙΔΩΛΙΑ
Σταυρόσχημα ειδώλια,
πήλινα κύπελλα,
βράχοι,
σπειροειδή κοσμήματα,
κυκλικές κατόψεις,
σμίλες χάλκινες
χτενίζουν το χώμα της Λέμπας
κάτω από τον πυρούμενο ήλιο
της Μεσογείου
και προκαλούν την Πέτρα του Ρωμιού
να γεννήσει την Αφροδίτη,
γυμνή θεά ειδωλίου της Σουσκιού
να κυνηγά ελάφια
στα δάση του Ακάμα
και να πέφτει γεμάτη έρωτα
πάνω σε θαλασσινά κοχύλια και βότσαλα
για να παρασύρει τον Άδωνη
σ’ ένα τρελό ερωτικό παιγνίδι
στις θαλασσινές σπηλιές του Αη-Γιώργη.
Στο πέρασμα των δυο ανήσυχων εραστών,
κύματα σπάζουν στους βράχους
ενώ οι αφροί σχηματίζουν
μορφές γονιμότητας
– ή άραγε ίχνη αγίων –
που θα οργώσουν
με τα γυμνά τους πόδια
το χώμα της Πάφου
ή ακόμα θα δεχτούν
ράπισμα από τους Ρωμαίους
και θα διαλέξουν την εγκλείστρα
μακριά από πάθη και μίση.
Κουφάλες δέντρων με άσπρα λουλουδάκια
κατευνάζουν την αγριάδα του τοπίου
και σβήνουν τα πάθη που έχουν ανάψει
σαν φλόγα από πυριτόλιθο.
Στης Αφροδίτης τα Λουτρά
η ροζ-πράσινη απόχρωση του ιάσπη
αντανακλά στο μπλε της θάλασσας
και χορεύει στο νερό.
IDOLS
Cruciform shaped idols,
clay cups,
rocks,
spiral jewelry,
circular designs,
copper chisels
scouring the soil of Lemba
under the scorching
Mediterranean sun
and entice the Rock of the Greek
to give birth to Aphrodite,
naked godess idol of Souskiou
hunting deer
in the forest of Akamas
and falling overwhelmed by love
on seashells and pebbles
to lure Adonis
into a frenzied love game
in the sea caves of St. George.
In the trail of the two restless lovers,
the waves break on the rocks
whilst the foam outlines
forms of fertility
– or perhaps footprints of saints –
that will plow
with their naked feet
the land of Paphos
or they will even receive
the blow of Romans
and they will choose the Reclusion
away from obsessions and hatred.
Aging tree trunks with tiny white flowers
appease the harshness of the landscape
and quench the passions ignited
like a flame from firestone.
At Aphrodite’s baths
the rose-green hue of jasper
reflects into the blue of the sea
and dances in the water.
