This is a study of the Cypriot Chronicle of Leontios Machairas as discourse. The basic hermeneutic construct for the book is that a number of modern disciplines may offer valuable insights into medieval textuality: narrative techniques in the Chronicle can be illuminated by narratology in the field of literary criticism; stylistic features through text-linguistics and its recently advanced branch exploring cohesion and coherence; and story structure through pioneering research in sociolinguistics on the linguistic strategies used in oral story-telling
