“Re- writing History textbooks. History education: a tool for polarisation or reconciliation?” comprises of two comparative studies of the Cyprus history textbooks used in the northern part of Cyprus.
This report examines the revisions that have taken place in Cyprus history textbooks in secondary schools in the north of the Island and provides an analysis in light of the political background which can be seen to have influenced these changes. The study uses a peace education perspective in terms of both the textual and visual content of the textbooks.
The Education for Peace Il study, highlights the way in which textbooks mirrored the nationalist polices to the progression towards a more ethno-centric approach to history.
