Description
The Lexicon of Greek Personal Names (LGPN) owes its origin, and its continued existence as a project, to a decision of the Council of the British Academy, taken in 1973, to undertake the compilation of a Greek onomastikon to replace that of W. Pape, revised by G. E. Benseler in two editions. A Steering Committee under my chairmanship was duly appointed, which has supervised the progress of the work from the outset.
