Description
It is always exciting to look at a collection of paintings in which most of one country’s important artists are represented. It is even more so when this collection, apart from reflecting artistic trends, also refers to nearly one hundred and fifty years of that country’s history. In Greece’s case, the years between the early decades of the nineteenth century and the period after the Second World War can be characterised by a particular variety and intensity in all aspects of political, cultural and social life. It is this period that the paintings of the Leventis Collection describe so vividly.
