Cyprus is among the youngest of nations. Yet it has a longer history than most. Looked at in one way it is a history of rule by foreigners – Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians, Macedonians, Romans, Byzantines, French, Venetians, Turks and British. But in another way it is a history of the meeting and often fruitful mingling of different cultures.
