Description
The BirdLife Cyprus 2024 calendar is dedicated to the raptors of Cyprus.
Amongst them is the noisy Common Kestrel Falco tinnunculus, the powerful Peregrine Falcon Falco peregrinus, the solitary Common Buzzard Buteo buteo, the elegant Eleonora’s Falcon Falco eleonorae and the majestic Griffon Vulture Gyps fulvus.
But these are not all; the Cyprus sky, from one end of the island to the other, is home to a rich variety of raptors, adorning coastal cliffs, mountains, forests, wetlands, scrub and farmland.
We must not forget however that raptors are crucial in keeping nature balanced. They control the number of prey and stop the spread of disease by consuming dead animals . They act as ‘nature’s caretakers’, from the top of the food chain.
