Volume IV provides the historical overview, material typologies, and comparative dating systems that tie the entire expedition together.
The volume was published in several staggered, highly specialised parts spanning from 1948 to 1972:
- Part 1A (1962): Focuses on the Stone Age and Early Bronze Age, written by pioneer archaeologists Porphyrios Dikaios and James Stewart.
- Part 1B, 1C & 1D (1972): Covers the Middle and Late Cypriot Bronze Age. These sections fundamentally established the pottery and architecture sequences for this critical era of Mediterranean trade.
- Part 2 (1948): Authored by expedition leader Einar Gjerstad, it covers the Cypro-Geometric, Cypro-Archaic, and Cypro-Classical periods, mapping out the island’s Iron Age development.
- Part 3 (1956): Covers the Hellenistic and Roman Periods, providing crucial data on later classical pottery, glass, and sculpture.
Part 2, slight damage at top and bottom of pages, but text, plates and drawings, are totally unaffected.
